What: "The New Jim Crow" by Michelle Alexander
When: September 20, 2020 with a bi-weekly schedule; time TBD
Why: To develop skills and further education on racial injustice

The Young Buddhist Editorial started a book club this past summer and we want to continue the conversation further by reading "The New Jim Crow" by Michelle Alexander. We will be discussing mass incarceration and racial discrimination faced by Black individuals in America. You did not have to be in our previous session to join this next group. We also understand that many of you will have busy schedules in the fall so we hope to adapt and be flexible throughout our session.

We are excited to grow and learn from all of you and hope we see you at our first meeting!

Conversations About Race and Buddhism

Registration is currently closed for our Conversations About Race and Buddhism Book Club.

Who: Open to all. Do not have to be Buddhist. All ages!
What: “Radical Dharma” by Rev. angel Kyodo Williams, Lama Rod Owens, and Jasmine Syedullha
When: Starting January 24th, meeting bi-monthly on Sundays, 5PM
Why: To find commonalities between our various religious experiences and journey to an anti-racist future. To spark conversations across generations in a safe, open environment.

This winter, YBE is offering a book club to understand religion’s role in social justice by reading Radical Dharma by Rev. angel Kyodo Williams, Lama Rod Owens, and Jasmine Syedullha. With national attention focused on the recent killings of unarmed Black citizens and the response of the Black-centered liberation groups, Radical Dharma demonstrates how social transformation and personal, spiritual liberation must be articulated and inextricably linked.

We are excited to continue this journey with you all and hope to see you at our first meeting!

After completing your registration form, you’ll be sent an email with more details. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
